Corning's Parish Heights housing development project just hit the jackpot with a whopping $4.9 million in state funding.
This incredible injection of funds is a major win for the project, which aims to provide permanent housing for formerly homeless individuals in the community.
The funding, awarded through the Homeless Housing and Assistance Program of the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, will be used to kick-start the development of 15 units of permanent housing at the former St. Vincent de Paul Church campus on Corning's Northside.
But this is just the beginning for Parish Heights, with plans to ultimately create a 45-unit housing complex complete with a daycare center.
Housing Visions Consultants, Inc. is the mastermind behind this incredible initiative, working tirelessly to turn the vacant site into a vibrant community hub.
The recent funding is a cause for celebration, but there's still more to be done. Additional state funding is pending for the remaining 30 units to complete the project. Fingers crossed it comes through soon!
The 15 units supported by the funding will offer permanent supportive housing to frail elderly or senior individuals who need a little extra help with daily activities. You know, the wise and wonderful folks aged 55 and older who are enrolled in Medicaid.
AIM Independent Living Center will be there to provide essential support services, including case management, crisis intervention, legal aid, mental health support, and even vocational and employment services.
State Assemblyman Phil Palmesano couldn't be happier with the progress of the project. He believes this funding marks an important milestone in addressing the pressing need for affordable and sustainable housing in Corning.
And he's not alone in his excitement. Ben Lockwood, the president of Housing Visions, sees Parish Heights as an opportunity to not only provide affordable housing but also enhance the lives of vulnerable seniors in Steuben County and the City of Corning.
So, what's next for Parish Heights? Well, construction is yet to begin, but with strong community support and the backing of the Housing Visions team, the momentum is building.
They're still waiting on word from the New York State Homes and Community Renewal regarding additional funding. If all goes well, we might be breaking ground in late 2024 or 2025.
